Robert Weil is without a doubt one of the most iconic producers in the Rheingau region, and is now in the hands of 4th generation Wilhelm Weil, who continues the family legacy stretching back to 1867 when the family first bought vineyards on the Kiedricher Berg, adjacent the Rhine River. Today the family owns 90 hectares entirely comprised of premium Riesling vineyards on the steep hillsides surrounding the picturesque estate, and continues making wines of incredible drive, purity and longevity.
Stylistically the Rheingau wines, whether sweet or dry, sit at the lighter and more lifted end of the spectrum for German Riesling. They share many similarities with the pure-fruited and ethereal style of the Mosel, but with a little more supple fruit and rounded acidity than its Moselle cousins.
The Rheingau Trocken is the calling card of the estate, being a blend of different high-lying vineyard sites around the property, with a variety of soil types primarily stoney and rough mix weathered slate and gneiss, with top-soils of loess and loam. A quintessential elegant and dry Riesling, which almost levitates over the palate with juicy acidity and citrussy gooseberry fruit and hints of verbena perfume, as well as a saliva-inducing saline finale. This can easily be broached now, or kept for the next 5-10 years to develop deeper notes of ripe stonefruit and kerosene.

Enticing spring blossom, white peach and Amalfi lemon aromas with a touch of herbal freshness. Elegant and racy with a tight core of wet stone minerality and fine tannins. Very crisp and bright finish. For a basic dry Riesling this should age extremely well.
